문재인 전 대통령의 더불어민주당 윤건영 의원은 이날 보도자료를 통해 문재인 전 대통령이 경남 양산시 평산마을 사저에서 오후 6시 52분부터 약 15분간 바이든 대통령과 전화 통화를 했다고 밝혔다. 이날 통화에는 최종건 전 외교 1차관 과 서훈  전 청와대 안보실장이 함께 배석했습니다.

문재인 전 대통령의 환영 인사에 바이든 대통령도 통화에서 문재인 전 대통령을 "참 좋은 친구"라고 부르며 1년 전 백악관에서 첫 정상회담을 갖고 한미동맹의 역사적인 토대를 만든 것을 좋은 기억으로 가지고 있다고 화답했다고 밝혔습니다.
