김홍이 기자= 강훈식 청와대 비서실장은 12월 24일 미 트럼프 대통령이 지난 10월 방한 당시 매우 귀한 선물을 받아, 이에 특별한 선물을 전달하고자 한다며, 5개 제작된 백악관 황금 열쇠 중 마지막 남은 1개를 이재명 대통령에게 보내왔다고 밝혔습니다.
강 비서실장은 백악관 황금 열쇠는 트럼프 대통령이 특별한 손님에게 주기 위해 직접 디자인한 것으로, 대통령 문장과 함께 백악관 열쇠(KEY TO THE WHITE HOUSE)라는 문구가 각인되어 있다고 말하고 현재까지 베냐민 네타냐후 이스라엘 총리, 아소 다로 전 일본 총리, 일론 머스크 테슬라 CEO, 그리고 크리스티아누 호날두 축구선수가 황금열쇠를 받은 것으로 알려져 있다고 밝혔습니다.
또한 트럼프 대통령의 사위 재러드 쿠슈너는 본인의 회고록에서 트럼프 대통령이 네타냐후 총리에게 첫 번째 열쇠를 주면서 “내가 퇴임한 이후에도 열쇠를 백악관 정문에서 보여주면 안으로 들여보내 줄 것”이라고 말했다는 일화를 소개한 적도 있다고도 말했습니다.
따라서 특별한 의미를 가진 이번 황금열쇠 선물이 굳건한 한미관계의 상징이 되기를 바라며, 앞으로도 굳건한 한미동맹의 미래를 만들어 나가겠다고도 밝혔습니다

Chief of Staff Kang stated that the gold key was personally designed by President Trump to be given to a special guest, and is engraved with the presidential seal and the phrase "KEY TO THE WHITE HOUSE." He also mentioned that in his memoir, President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner recounted an anecdote in which President Trump gave Prime Minister Netanyahu the first key, promising, "Even after I leave office, if you show the key at the main gate of the White House, you'll be let in."
