김홍이기자=이재명 대통령은 31일 미국 연방하원 아미 베라 동아태소위원회 간사님을 비롯한 코리아 스터디그룹 의원 여러분의 방한을 진심으로 환영한다며, 코리아 스터디그룹 의원들께서는 그간 한미동맹의 발전을 위해 초당적 지지를 보내주셨고, 오늘의 회동 역시 이러한 연속선상에서 협력을 더욱 공고히 하기 위한 자리였다고 말했습니다.

이어 李대통령은 우리는 대한민국 기업의 대미 투자 패키지를 비롯해 원자력의 평화적 이용, 핵추진 잠수함, 조선 등 주요 분야 협력 강화와 양국의 전략적 이익 극대화를 위해 노력해 나가자고 뜻을 모았다고도 밝혔습니다.

따라서 李 대통령은 아울러 조지아주에서 발생한 한국인 구금 사태와 같은 일이 재발하지 않도록 해야 한다는 데 의견을 같이 하고, 미국 내 우리 노동자들의 안정적 체류 보장을 위한 제도 개선에도 긴밀히 협력하기로 했습니다.

또한 李 대통령은 최근 중동 전쟁으로 인한 위기 대응 과정에서도 협력을 지속적으로 추진해 나갈 계획이며, 앞으로도 한미동맹 발전을 위한 의원 여러분의 각별한 관심과 지속적인 기여를 부탁드린다고 밝혔습니다.

President Lee Jae-myung, sincerely welcome the visit to the Republic of Korea by members of the Congressional Study Group on Korea(CSGK), including Representative Ami Bera, Ranking Member of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific.

 

The members of the CSGK have long demonstrated bipartisan support for the advancement of the ROK-U.S. Alliance. Today's meeting was held in that same spirit, as a step toward further solidifying our cooperation.

 

We agreed to work together to strengthen cooperation in key areas —including the investment packages of Korean companies in the United States, peaceful use of nuclear energy, conventionally armed nuclear-powered submarines, and shipbuilding— and to maximize our mutual strategic interests through these efforts.

 

We also shared concerns that incidents such as the detention of Korean nationals in Georgia should not recur, and agreed to work closely together on improving relevant systems to ensure a stable legal status for our workers in the United States.

 

We also plan to continue to advance cooperation in the course of dealing with the recent crises in the Middle East. I ask you, the members, for your continued attention and contributions to the further development of the ROK-U.S. Alliance.
