문재인 대통령은 16일 한국기자협회 창립 55주년 축사를 통해 “FAKE News(가짜뉴스)가 넘쳐나는 세상에서 ‘진실’은 더욱 중요해졌다”며 ‘가짜뉴스’에 대한 경각심을 나타냈다.
문 대통령은 이날 오전 한국프레스센터에서 열린 기념식 영상 축사를 통해 "언론자유"를 향한 길은 끝이 없다. 무엇보다도 진실을 밝히려는 기자정신이 가장 중요하다. 공정하고 균형 잡힌 보도를 위해 항상 노력해주실 것이라고 믿는다”면서 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 “진실을 향한 걸음을 멈추지 않는다면 언론의 자유는 커지고, 그만큼 우리 공동체도 발전할 것”이라며 “정권의 선의에 기대지 않고 자유롭고 공정한 언론을 언제나 보장받을 수 있는 제도의 정착을 위해서도 함께 노력해주시기 바란다”고 당부했다.
또 문 대통령은 “한국기자협회 55년은 언론의 자유를 지켜온 역사다. 한국기자협회는 ‘언론자유를 침해하는 모든 압제와 싸우며’ 진실과 양심의 자유를 지키는 최후의 보루가 되어주었다”며 “여러분의 노력과 국민의 지지 덕분에 우리 언론의 자유는 후퇴했다가도 다시 회복하고 전진해왔다”고 축하의 말을 했다.

이어 “작년에는 ‘국경없는기자회’가 아시아 최초로 우리나라를 찾아 세계언론자유지수를 발표했다. ‘한국 기자들과 시민사회의 저항은 전 세계 민주주의 국가들에게 좋은 본보기’라는 찬사를 보내기도 했다”며 “언론의 자유를 위해 불굴의 의지로 노력해온 기자협회 여러분께 감사드린다”고 했다.
아울러 문 대통령은 “지난 55년간 한결같이 자유롭고, 민주적이며, 평화로운 대한민국을 향해 걸어온 것처럼 앞으로도 새로운 미래를 만들어가는 우리 국민의 곁에 늘 한국기자협회가 함께 해주실 것이라 믿는다”고 당부했다.

President Moon's road to "free speech" is endless this morning.  Above all, the journalist's spirit to reveal the truth is the most important.  "I believe you will always try to be fair and balanced."
In the meantime, "If we don't stop walking to the truth, our freedom of the press will grow, and our community will grow so much."  I asked.
 President Moon said, “The Korean Journalists Association 55 years is a history of free speech.  The Korean Journalists Association 'was fighting all the oppression that violated the freedom of the press' and became the last resort to protect the truth and freedom of conscience. ”  I've been moving forward. ”

“Last year, the Reporters Without Borders” was the first in Asia to announce the World Press Freedom Index.  "The resistance of Korean journalists and civil society has been praised as a good example for democracies around the world."
In addition, President Moon said, “I believe that the Korean Journalists Association will always be with us as we walk toward a free, democratic and peaceful Korea for the past 55 years.
