트럼프 미국 대통령이 10일 북한문제 등 미국 대외정책에서 호전적인 매파 존 볼턴 백악관 국가안보보좌관을 전격 해임했다.

트럼프 대통령은 이날 트위터를 통해 “나는 어젯밤 존 볼턴 보좌관에게 그의 복무가 더 이상 백악관에서 필요하지 않다고 알렸다”며 “나는 그에게 사직을 요구했고 사직서는 오늘 아침 내게 전달됐다”고 밝혔다. 그러면서 “존의 복무에 매우 감사하다”며 “새 국가안보보좌관을 다음 주 지명할 것”이라고 조만간 신임 안보보좌관을 선임할 것임을 예고했다.
 
트럼프 대통령은 그를 경질한 배경에 대해 “행정부 안의 다른 사람들이 그렇듯 나는 그의 제안들 중 많은 것에 크게 의견이 달랐다”고 했다. 북한, 베네수엘라, 이란, 아프가니스탄 등 미국의 주요 대외정책 추진과정에서 볼턴 보좌관과 자신의 뜻이 배치됐다는 뜻이다 라고 말했다.

President Trump has fired the White House Nat'l Security Advisor John Bolton, who was aggressive in US foreign policy, including North Korea.

Trump said on Twitter that "I informed Assistant Secretary John Bolton last night that his service was no longer needed at the White House." "We are very grateful for John's service," he said. "We'll appoint a new national security advisor next week."

Pres. Trump said of his hard background: "I was very dissatisfied with many of his proposals, as are the others in the administration." It means that Bolton & his will have been assigned in major US foreign policy initiatives such as North Korea, Venezuela, Iran, & Afghanistan.
